Offer to a 2015 power forward

Via Verbal Commits: "San Jose State and Utah State have offered 2015 Columbus North (IN) F Josh Speidel."

Duquesne and Loyila (IL) have also recently offered.

Speidel stands 6-foot-7 and weight 210 and enjoyed a great July.

A Brandon Clarke tweet: "I have officially verbally committed to play basketball at San Jose State University! Go Spartans!."

Clarke is out of Desert Vista High in Phoenix and played spring and summer ball with the AZ Ekmark Warriors.

Via Verbal Commits: "2016 Shadow Mountain (AZ) F J.J. Rhymes has received an offer from San Jose State."

The 6-foot-3 Rhymes is (truncatedly) described: "Rhymes is a lanky left-hander who is extremely explosive. He is a glue-type who affects the game with his trampoline-like bounce and energy. He slashes his way to the rim and possesses excellent body control while finishing..."

Phase1Hoops tweeted: "6'3 G Darius Jackson Jr. of Clark HS @ClarkBasketbal1 (2016) gets offered by the San Jose St. Spartans."

Jackson is a 6-foot-3 guard.

After a November 2013 event: "Jackson put his athleticism on display several times throughout the weekend, including a baseline dunk that brought the crowd to its feet. He shoots it well enough to keep the defense honest, but has a penchant for slashing to the basket and that's where his bread is buttered "

Jon Rothstein with MWC predictions

Jon Rothstein has been tweeting away with 2014-15 Mountain West Conference predictions -- some examples:

He has SJSU finishing at #11.

No impact freshman or transfers in the Top 10 for the Spartans.

SJSU bidding for a 2015 wing

Daniel Poneman tweeted: "San Jose State is the latest school to offer 6'5" SG/SF Isaiah Moss (Simeon), his third offer in 24 hours (Auburn, Rhode Island)."

The 2015 prospect also has offers from LaSalle, Northern Illinois and others as you'll read below.

From a June 2014 article in which he was named the MVP at the Riverside-Brookfield Summer Shootout:

That would undoubtedly be Isaiah Moss, the 6'5 2015 wing at Simeon.  Moss was a scoring machine all weekend long and was the primary reason why Simeon ended up capturing the tournament championship by defeating Proviso East in the title game.  Moss is a high-flyer who can simply flat out score in a variety of ways.  It includes consistently getting to the rim, battling inside for boards, finishing on the break and being able to nail pullup j's out to 3-point territory.  With Morrow, 6'2 2016 2-guard Zach Norvell and 6'3 2016 point guard Josh Thomas all absent, Moss came to the forefront in a big way for Simeon and in doing so greatly enhanced his profile.  At the present time Moss sports scholarship offers from DePaul, Wisconsin-Green Bay, Illinois-Chicago, Chicago State and Wyoming.

Moss, who seems like he is blowing up, will be another "hard" get but you won't land him if you don't offer.

Another SJSU offer extended

From Coach Dana of the Southwest Jets Basketball Club: "Brendon Gooch has received an offer from San Jose State University tonight."

Gooch is a 2016 prospect who stands 6-foot-6.

From an April 2013 piece: "Makes the game look easy. Gooch has all the tools, he's a great scorer both at shooting outside and scoring at the rim. He is a smart kid as I learned that he is on the honor roll at Belleville Althoff High School. Looks like the game is slowed down for him as he simply glides through defenders. Gets in nice position and rebounds well for his position. Puts in great effort on defense."

Western Illinois offered earlier as has Southern Illinois - Edwardsville.

The biggest concern here is he may end up becoming too "big" -- meaning some of the various basketball powers in the Midwest will desire him as his game expands and he grows into his body in the next two years.

Nevada's 2014-15 schedule

Sam King offers background on Nai Carlisle's decision to commit to SJSU.

The St. Louis offer to the 2016 guard prospect validates his promise. The Billikens are not a national power yet are a strong program, having finished last season 27-7 overall, 13-3 in the Atlantic 10 Conference..

Josh Gershon tweeted: "2016 CIA Bounce SG Brandon Cyrus picked up an offer from San Jose State."

He's a 6-foot-4 shooting guard attending high school in the San Diego area but originally out of Toronto.

2016 point Nai Carlisle commits

A Kristof Kendrick tweet: "Indiana Elite 2016 PG Nai Carlisle has committed to San Jose State."

From the Lafayette Journal & Courier:

West Lafayette junior-to-be Nai Carlisle verbally committed to play basketball at San Jose State University late Monday night.

Kristof Kendrick, a former Central Catholic standout who coaches with the Indiana Elite AAU team Carlisle plays for, Tweeted out the news at approximately 10:30 p.m. Monday.

The six-foot Class of 2016 point guard averaged 17 points, 3.1 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 1.7 steals and shot 32.4 percent from 3-point range as a sophomore, helping the Red Devils win a Hoosier Conference championship. Carlisle also helped lead West Lafayette to a sectional championship in 2013 as a freshman.

That means it will be quite a wait for the 6-foot, 180-pound young man but the significance of this is SJSU doesn't get two years out alliances. It's remarkable the young man pulled the trigger now as this is something usually only the Dukes and Kentuckys are able to line up.

Carlisle's father Duane is employed at Purdue as the director of sports performance so some Boilermaker fans are in a tizzy over this commitment. The family used to live in San Jose and his brother is a senior running back at Notre Dame but attended Kings Academy in Sunnyvale.

In early June, Carlisle was out west: "The 6-footer took unofficial visits to Cal on Saturday, SJSU today, and will hit Santa Clara on Wednesday."

James and Wilson earn academic honors

The Mountain West Conference has issued its Academic All Conference awards for Spring 2014 with Spartans Jalen James and Devante Wilson earning recognition.

To be eligible for selection, student-athletes must have completed at least one academic term at the
member institution while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better, and be a
starter or significant contributor on their athletic team

Congrats to the pair.

Spartan interest in Dominic Green

Bill Elleby tweeted: "HS Boys Dominic @Mr_Green_25 Green 6'7 SG SBS#4 2015 Hazen HS receiving interest from Portland St.,San Jose St.,Montana St.,Weber St."

Elleby's previous tweet indicated interest also from Gonzaga, Boise State, Idaho, Portland, Oregon and Montana.

An update of sort on Devenir Duruisseau

In communicating with a southern-California based recruiting analyst recently about one time Spartan commit Devenir Duruisseau, his thinking, albeit without firsthand knowledge, is that it's a grade issue holding back the recruitment. The analyst also said Duruisseau is 6-foot-6 and not the 6-foot-8 as regularly posted.

At Duruisseau's Twitter account, he has some interesting posts up. One is "Idaho tomorrow" preceded by "Off too Idaho on Tuesday."

Don't think that means University of Idaho but more likely College of Southern Idaho, a longtime powerhouse in the national JC ranks.
